Valentine’s Day often revolves around traditional gifts, but there’s something magical about thinking outside the box. Here are a few creative ways I’m planning to celebrate love this season, whether it’s with a partner, family, or friends.
1. Write Handwritten Notes
There’s something timeless and deeply personal about a handwritten note. This year, I’m penning small messages of love and appreciation for my hubby, nephews, and close friends. Sharing your thoughts on why you value someone can create a deeper emotional connection—it’s the ultimate heartfelt gesture. Bonus points for hand-made cards!
2. Plan a Shared Outdoor Adventure
Spending time in nature is an incredible way to bond and reduce stress. A walk through the woods, a hike, or even a snowy picnic (if weather permits) can create lasting memories. I’m looking forward to sharing a quiet, tech-free afternoon with my family, breathing in fresh air and reconnecting with each other. We have 70 trees to mark before Maple Syrup season arrives!
3. Cook a Special Meal Together
Cooking can be an act of love, especially when done together. This Valentine’s, I’m planning a menu featuring hormone-friendly dishes. Thinking salmon with a side of roasted sweet potatoes and greens, probably with dark chocolate-dipped strawberries for dessert. It’s not just delicious; it’s nourishing for the body and soul!
4. Create a Memory Jar
This is one of my favorite sentimental activities. Write down your favorite memories from the past year on small pieces of paper, then read them together. It’s a beautiful way to reflect on your journey and strengthen your bond.
5. Share Acts of Service
Sometimes, showing love means lightening someone’s load. Whether it’s surprising your partner by completing a chore they dislike or preparing a thoughtful lunch for a friend, acts of service go a long way in making someone feel appreciated.
6. Plan A Surprise Tea Party
My nephews love our tradition of a tea party after school! I like to take the time and make as many “heart-shaped” food items as possible. And of course everything is red or pink colours. They each pick a fruity (non-caffeinated!) tea, and we all sit and talk about our favourite things, what we love about love, and enjoy our snack!
Valentine’s Day is about celebrating love in all its forms. Whether you’re showing love to yourself, your partner, or your community, these thoughtful ideas will make the season meaningful and memorable.
